Adulthood

When I was a child I dreamed of being an adult. I saw in adulthood the ability to fulfill my desires. To have control. Freedom.

I always rushed into adulthood, overly eager, as if I were in a race for achievement.

And it's when you cross the line into adulthood that you really realize what life means through the eyes of an adult.

that life is a exchange. You will always have to make sacrifices to obtain something. Whether it's success in your career, starting a company, or having a great love, there is always a price to pay, even if it's subtle.

that life is exotic. Life is measured by time and we do not have unlimited time. We imagine that our lives are in crescendo, when in truth from the moment we are born we are counting down to zero.

That life is more about failure what of success. We can't get everything we want in life. It is a fact. A fact that everyone knows well.

So why is it so difficult to accept?

Because it is impossible to reconcile reality with our dreams. Those childhood desires that when we realize that they are impossible to achieve, we allow them to dry and fall from us, like fallen leaves from a tree, because:

Life is more about learn to die that learn to live.

Life is more about separating ourselves from the pieces of self-concept that do not define us.

Life is more about having no expectations about life.

Life is more about being surprised by life.

Because, life is about experiencing it.

And it's only when you're an adult and you've experienced life that you realize that life is precious, even when it's evanescent.
