When I was a child, I dreamed about being an adult. I saw in adulthood the capacity to fulfil my wishes. Of having control. Freedom.
I always ran to adulthood, too eager, as if I was in a race for accomplishment.
And it’s when you cross the line of adulthood you truly realize what life means through the eyes of an adult.
That life is a trade-off. You will always need to do sacrifices in order to get something. Succeed at your career, set up a company or to have a great love, always there is a price to pay—even if it’s subtle.
That life is exotic. Life is measured by time, and we don’t have unlimited time. We imagine our lives are in crescendo, when in truth from the moment we born we are counting down to zero.
That life is exotic. Life is measured by time, and we don’t have unlimited time. We imagine our lives are in crescendo, when in truth from the moment we born we are counting down to zero.
That life is more about failure than is a about success. We can´t get everything we want in life. That’s a fact. A fact that everybody knows well.
Then why is so difficult to accept it?
Because it’s impossible to reconcile the reality with our dreams. Those childhood wishes that when we realize are impossible to achieve, we allow to dry out and fall from us, like leafs fallen from a tree, because:
Life is more about learning to die than learning to live.
Life is more about detaching ourselves from the pieces of the self-concept that doesn’t define us.
Life is more about not having expectations about life.
Life is more about being surprised by life.
Because, life is about experiencing it.
And it’s only when you are an adult and have experienced life, is when you realize life is precious, even when it’s evanescent.
